Ad Production Requirements
- Trim Size: 9 "w X 10.875 "h
- Live Area: 7.75"w X 9.875"h
- Format: 4 column
- Binding: Perfect Bound
- Printing: Heat Set Web, 4-color process, 150 line screen.
- Paper: 40 lb. coated or heavier with 80lb front and back covers.
Production charges:
Digital file requirements:
- Digital files must be submitted in Macintosh format on DVD or CD,
together with
an accurate, printed color proof. Files may also be e-mailed
or submitted on cd or dvd as PDF-X (press ready PDF) to the account executive in charge of the
account.
- Transfer of digital files via our internet ftp upload site must be
discussed with the production department prior to transmission.
- Digital files must be submitted as:
Resolution: 300 dpi or higher at 100% of print size
Mode: CMYK (no RGB)
Format: Acrobat .pdf (see specifications below*,) Photoshop
.tif, or 300 dpi CMYK .jpg files preferred.
In some cases, Adobe Photoshop CS2/CS3 or Quark XPress 6.5 Macintosh
files are also accepted and must include all images saved as Adobe Photoshop
.tif format. You must also include all postscript level 1 fonts. We do
not accept True Type fonts. Prior approval from the production department
is required for Photoshop and Quark files.
- Digital files must be sized accurately. Otherwise, Publisher reserves
the right to alter the size of the ad.
- Digital files requiring more than one key change are subject to a
production charge.
- Digital files can be emailed to: production@houseandhomeonline.com.
Please include the advertiser name in the subject line. You may also
upload digital files to our ftp site. Call our production department
for more information regarding our ftp site.
- A hard copy color print out of the ad must be mailed to the office.
Photography & Artwork:
- Include all images TIFF, EPS, JPEG, Bitmap files used in a digital
file in a folder labeled “Images.” Adobe Illustrator created eps or pdf files must have all type outlined to avoid missing fonts.
- Convert all color images to CMYK.
- Convert all black & white images to grayscale.
- No RGB, Indexed Color or Duotone images can be used.
- Minimum resolution is 300 dpi at 100% of print size.
- Maximum black density is 100%; total ink density is 300%; dot gain
is 20%.
Advertising Agencies:
- Advertiser and agency are jointly liable on ads placed through an
agency. Orders containing incorrect rates or conditions will be inserted
and charged in compliance with rates and conditions shown in rate card.
Such errors will be considered clerical only.
Proofs, printing errors:
- No pre-publication proofs are provided for materials submitted as
digital files.
- Should there be an error in an ad on the part of the Publisher,the
liability of the Publisher is limited to partial or complete refund
of the cost of the advertisement. The Publisher is not liable for damages
beyond ad costs.
- The Publisher is not liable for detection or correction of errors
or inaccurate information contained in supplied digital files.
- Advertiser will indemnify and hold harmless the Publisher for any
claims, damages or liability resulting from publication of any advertising
copy submitted by the Advertisers, including suit costs and reasonable
attorney’s fees. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the
Advertiser represents and warrants that any copy submitted is truthful
and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Acrobat PDF (PDF-X) Press Ready PDF
Specifications:
File cannot use transparency. All images must be CMYK or grayscale mode
with a resolution of 300 dpi at 100% reproduction size. All colors in
file must be converted to CMYK process. (No spot colors or RGB colors.)
PDF job option settings are as follows: Registration on, offset=.25 inches,
compression for images=300 dpi, compatibility=Acrobat 4.0 or higher, embed
all fonts.

Sales deadlines and print dates:
- Sales deadlines are generally the third Friday of each month, as long as that date is before the 20th. If the third Friday falls on the 20th or later, the 18th or 19th
becomes the deadline, depending on the weekend dates.
- Print dates are the 26th of each month preceding the issue date.
- Ad materials deadline is two work days prior to the sales deadline.
